Where are we going? As I say in the video on the homepage of our website, Old Stone Presbyterian Church is a congregation rooted in history that is stepping boldly into a faithful future.

As we consider how our history impacts our future, we're taking some steps to preserve and share our history.

1) All of the records held by the Presbyterian Historical Society ( ) are in the process of being digitized and, therefore, more accessible.

2) We have abundant copies of the wonderful book, "History of Old Stone Presbyterian Church 1783-1983" by John Fleshman Montgomery. If you would like one, all you need to do is ask.

3) We have gathered all of the historical documents, photos, and other materials and placed them in one room in the church. They are now ready to be cataloged, organized, and recommendations made as to how these items can help us tell the Old Stone Story. There are a few people who have expressed interest in working on this project, if you would like to join them, please be in touch as soon as possible- they are ready to get to work!

I will be taking the coming weekend off and taking a quick trip to Chapel Hill with my family. I know that you will be blessed with the worship leadership of The Rev. Ed Thompson, the General Presbyter of the Presbytery of West Virginia. He is no stranger to Old Stone, and I know it will be a good Sunday for you all!

Greetings from the Sunday School Class led by Chuck Lewis.
Thought for the week: If you are religious, it is easier to read some pious books other than the Bible. The Bible treats you like human life does, roughly.
Our quiz from Genesis last week: Name the two children born of Isaac and Rebekah and their respective nations.
Answer: The older son Esau and his nation Edom would serve the younger son Jacob and his nation Israel.
This week's quiz in Genesis: Most people are familiar with Jacob (with the help of his mother) tricking Esau out of his blessing. Jacob left home to avoid Esau's revenge, went to live with Uncle Laban, and serve him in exchange for one of his daughters. What happened to that arrangement?
Our study last week in Galatians led us into a discussion about the changes in a church as members age, develop different theologies, and consequently sometimes weaken the church. Our lesson questions revolved around the differences between the Galatian Church and our recent history at Old Stone.
This week our study of Galatians continues with the theme "Freedom in Christ." We will study the problem with that in the Galatian Church, how Paul addressed it, and how our church can avoid it. Background scriptures come from 1 Corinthians, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, Romans, and Galatians. Please join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM in the Conference Room.

Almighty God, in signs and wonders your Son revealed
the greatness of your saving love.

ôCall to Confession
ôPrayer of Confession (unison)
Holy God, your law shows the way of righteousness, but we forsake your commandments. We have not provided for the poor or aided those in need. In our day-to-day lives we fail to live up to your truth while being quick to judge others, failing to love our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us our sins and inspire within us a spirit of sincere repentance. Free us to live as your holy people with Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

ôDeclaration of Pardon
Leader: Hear and believe the good news of the gospel.
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

ôAffirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
