This past Friday Sarah Allan and I went on a West Virginia adventure- we spent the day on the New River swimming, rafting, and thoroughly enjoying ourselves and this amazing state. It was a good to step out of our normal routine for a day and be grateful.

This coming Sunday you have one of those opportunities- a luncheon after worship. We’re going to take some time out of our normal routine to give thanks for the musicians and worship leaders who help and lead us in worship. The musicians who lead our worship aren’t like performers at Carnegie Hall. We don’t applaud their work on Sundays because what they do isn’t a performance for us, it is an offering to God, it is worship. As the saying goes, “He who sings, prays twice.” We are thankful for their prayers. I hope that you will join me in expressing our gratitude- If you are able, please bring a side dish to share. The Fellowship Committee will be providing everything else.

(see the announcement in this newsletter for more information about how to RSVP and what you can do to help!)

The other news I have to share is that the Historic Landmarks Commission approved the copper roof at their meeting this past Monday night. This coming week the Property Committee will be meeting to review the bids they have received and will be making a recommendation to the Session. Hopefully we’ll soon have news about the timeline and how you can help!

As always, please know how thankful I am for all of you. I hope that this finds you well.

Rev. Anna

Greetings from the Sunday School class led by Chuck Lewis Thought for the week: Throughout scripture, the essence of sin is to put human judgement above divine command.
Last week's Old Testament Quiz: Ruth and Boaz had a son named Obed. Who was his famous grandson?
Answer: The mighty warrior and King David.
This week's Old Testament Quiz: Which prophet denied being a prophet but instead a herdsman and dresser of sycamore trees?
Our lesson last week was a study of God's call to Jeremiah, his initial resistance, and subsequent unpopularity. Many times today we may answer no when called to serve at Old Stone. This week think about what God might be calling and sending you to do. Our lesson this week focuses on a prophet that was required to eat a scroll then go speak to the house of Israel. Background scriptures are from Revelation, Esther, and Ezekiel. Come learn with us this Sunday at 10:00 AM in the Conference Room.

Mother's Ministry Needs:
Old Stone is excited to sponsor a Community Mother's Ministry starting this October to be held two Friday mornings per month, 9-11 am. This Ministry will strive to engage all mothers in our community by providing encouragement and guidance in a loving Christian environment. To make this ministry possible, we are still in need of 3 Childcare Workers. We are also seeking speakers, and non-perishable food items for children's snacks. Please contact Amy Brown at 304-676-1468 if you are able to help.

Choir Appreciation Luncheon!
Sunday, July 23 after worship
The Fellowship Committee is hosting a lunch after worship this Sunday, July 23 as a way to say thank you to those who lead worship by being a part of or leading our music.

Fried Chicken, drinks, bread, and a cake will be provided. Choir members come as our guests, but if you aren’t in the choir we ask that you bring a salad or side dish to share (we will be able to keep dishes warm or cold, so bring them before worship!).

In order to help us order the right amount of food, we encourage everyone to let us know that you will be attending. Please call the church office (304.645.2676) or email to reserve a place. Thank you!

Introit “Praise Him! Praise Him!”

Prayer of the Day (unison)
God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you, and voices to sing your praise. Fill us with your Spirit, that we may celebrate your glory and worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn #464 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee ” HYMN TO JOY

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (unison)
God of Grace and God of Glory, forgive us.
You commanded us to love completely, but we’ve held back.
You sent prophets to implore us to love, but we thought they were crazy.
You sent Jesus as proof of your love, but his way requires too much change.
Forgive us Lord. Open our timid hearts. Strengthen our conviction.
May your mercy make us brave. We ask it in your name. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon
Leader: Hear and believe the good news of the gospel.
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Gloria Patri Hymn #579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Time with the Young Church (afterwards children are dismissed for Sunday School)

Hymn #359 “More Love to Thee, O Christ ” MORE LOVE TO THEE

Sermon “Article of Faith: Love in Action”

Musical Interlude (you are invited to use this time for prayer and personal reflection)

Affirmation of Faith The Confession of 1967
God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of the
human mind. Human thought ascribes to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But God reveals divine love in Jesus Christ by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful men and women. The power of God’s love in Christ to transform the world discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of God’s love.

The Giving of God’s Tithes and Our Offerings

Doxology Hymn #592
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures here below;
praise God above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Sharing of Concerns and Celebrations

Call to Prayer “Take Thou Our Minds, Dear Lord”

Prayer of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
…..Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn #368 “I’ve Got Peace Like a River”

Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you

Choral Response “Go With a Song in Your Heart”
